On Monday July 12, BWH Volunteer Services member Trudi Feinstein received the Local Hero Award from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for her exceptional commitment to increasing breast cancer awareness.
“I think this is an incredible honor,” Feinstein said of receiving the award. “Having lost someone significant to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and having had cancer myself, it’s very meaningful to me. Fighting cancer is my life’s passion.”
“Trudi is exemplary in her emotional support of women diagnosed with and undergoing treatment for breast cancer,” said Elaine Garland, administrative coordinator, BWH Volunteer Services. “Having been diagnosed at an early stage for breast cancer herself and now cancer-free going on five years, she’s been generous with her time and energy to fundraise for research into this disease that affects the lives of so many women.”
“I was treated by two outstanding physicians, Feinstein said of her care at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. She was speaking of Carolyn Kaelin, MD, director, BWH Comprehensive Breast Health Center and Jay Harris, MD, chair, Radiation Oncology at BWH and DFCI. She said, “Not only are they excellent physicians, but they’re extremely caring people.”
Feinstein also praised the nursing care she witnessed at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center when a significant person in her life died. “There are just not enough positive things I can say about the care,” added Feinstein.
